Students’ Performance in Venous Blood Specimen Collection Practice before Internship: An Observation Study

Introduction: Newly trained nurses experience a lack of preparedness in practical skills, and research shows that students newly have deficiencies performing skills such as venous blood specimen collection. There is knowledge regarding the level accuracy reached by after training at clinical centres before entering practice. The aim this study was to assess performance collection among nursing regular education centre but starting an internship. Methods: Twenty-three were observed video-recorded. An observation protocol developed based on validated questionnaire measuring adherence valid guidelines, model for performance. Data analysed using descriptive statistics. Results: A large variation found students’ with respect information provided patient, patient identification procedures, tourniquet procedures. gave adequate 39% cases, accurately performed 83% procedure 22% cases. Conclusions: Many are not prepared practice real patients. It therefore important university lecturers develop more efficient teaching methods communicate skill levels supervisor clinic, order be adapted suitable level. need further how close gap between internship ensure safety.
